MEGA MEAL® 6% soybean oil

MEGA 19 18% soybean oil

Mega Meal® (extruded-expelled soybean meal) is a high energy soybean meal. Mega Meal® is manufactured using the natural process of friction to cook the soybeans and applying pressure to remove some of the oil. The end result is a soybean meal with 6% oil.

Mega 19 (extruded soybean meal) is our highest energy soybean meal. Mega 19 is processed using friction to cook the soybeans without removing any of the oil. This gives us a soybean meal with 18% soybean oil.

Benefits of Soybean Oil in Livestock Rations

Fat contributes to both biological and physical improvements of feed energy. Its caloric value is the major reason for its increased use. Vegetable fats are more digestible than animal fats, and are beneficial thanks to the presence of significant levels of the fatty acid, linoleic acid.

Jason Woodworth, a K-State graduate student who has performed feeding trials on pigs, noted that the extruding-expelling combination produces soybean meal that is higher in fat content, because it reduces the amount of oil removed during the expeller process.

Higher-oil soybean meal means more energy and improved digestibility for pigs.

“It also means that there is less dust in feed barns, feed flows better in the bins, and pigs eat less feed for the same amount of weight gain,” stated Woodworth.

Soybean Oil for Swine

  • Improves sow reproduction and condition

  • Increases baby pig survival

  • Increases the number of pigs weaned per litter

  • Improves rate of gain and feed efficiency

  • Increases sow conception rate in decreased time

  • Decreases dust loss of feed

MEGA-MEAL® RESEARCH

Kansas State University has done a feed trial comparing extruded-expelled soybean meal to solvent extracted soybean meal. Their complete study was published in their Swine Day 2000 Report. The report (or trial) concluded that pigs fed extruded-expelled soybean meal had an 11% better feed conversion than pigs fed solvent extracted meal.

Utah State University has done a study comparing different techniques of making soybean meal. One of the processing techniques they compared was the extruded-expelled (ExPress). Extruded-expelled is the same technique used to make Mega Meal. In their feed trial they used lactating dairy cows. The end result was that cows fed extruded-expelled soybean meal ate 3.8% less feed and produced 12.8% more milk. Below is Table 2 of their study.
